First Day ; The competition arena

A silence reverberates around the competition arena so that you can almost hear a pin drop. The taciturnity, however, contrasts largely with the competitors' confidence and desire to shine. The atmosphere is almost electrifying. I am now in ITE College West's Sports Hall. In this venue alone, there are over 8 skills trades such as IT Network Systems Administration, Graphic Design, Caring, Industrial Control to name a few.

Each individual is poised and composed - intensely focused on their tasks at hands despite the heavy pressure to perform ; this the obvious results of many months, if not years, of arduous training. I can feel each of their determination in their quest for excellence, in their dreams to be the best.

Through out my days in school, I note the NYP WorldSkills competitors coming back on the eves of Christmas, New Year alike (and sometimes even on the actual holidays itself), without grudge just for training to hone their skill levels.

Many of the competitors, as we all know have sacrificed their family and personal time in their preparation for this competition.

Today the search for the best in Singapore culminates with WorldSkills Singapore Final and all of them most certainly deserves our respect and admiration for exceptional dedication. We will keep you posted with pictures of the arena shortly.
